With vibrant Bergamot and fresh basil leaf complemented by earthy notes of oakmoss and white patchouli, this manly masterpiece has the fresh, clean, nostalgic smell of an old style barber shop. The Nest is smelling good!

My husband's holster was the inspiration for the colour of this soap...and he wonders why his holster is not exactly the way he left it!!! 😏 😄

Have you tasted a nasty pot of Gumbo? 😄 It would be a shame to write off all Gumbo from that one experience..you would be missing out on a mighty fine dish!  There are some excellent Gumbo makers out there, and my Mama was one of them when she was alive.  My Aunt Barbara is also one of them. I hear tell that folks in her neck of the bayous agree. But I digress...I'm supposed to be talking about SOAP...not soup!

Not all handmade soaps are the same. Different soap makers use different recipes. Just like with Gumbo, don't judge all handmade soaps from one experience. If you have ever tried homemade soap and for some reason you didn't care for it, try it from another soap maker. You might be pleasantly surprised! 😉

First Day of Spring

According to the calendar, today is the first day of spring. I did see a couple of robins in the yard yesterday. They were trying to find some earth amongst the patches of snow and ice still out there. My husband says that Alaska would completely thaw before we do! Ha, I think it's that Louisiana farmer's blood in him that is getting eager to plow the ground. 😉

This is the day!

 

A dear friend gave me this little ornament several years ago.  It hangs in my kitchen window. One day, while at the sink, the thought came to me... Every day is a gift from God...What did I do with it? Did I use it wisely, or waste it?

This little bird, and its saying, came back to my mind this morning as I updated the label on the Pink Grapefruit Soap.   I chose Psalm 118:24 for this soap.  "This is the day which the LORD hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it."  One thing I know I can do with this gift from God is REJOICE and BE GLAD in it!

Silk and Roses

I've been working on another new soap this week.  I'm calling it "Silk and Roses" because it contains both! I infused the lye solution with Tussah Silk.  Silk has long been regarded as a premium ingredient...whether it be in fabric, cosmetics or soap.  It gives a luxurious silky lather in soap.  Here is a picture of the silk: 

 
The top of this luxury goat milk soap is adorned with delicately dried roses from my sister's rose garden in Louisiana.  She was kind enough to pick and dry them for me when they were in full bloom. 

 "Silk and Roses" is lightly scented with a romantic rose fragrance oil.  Silk, roses, shea butter and goat milk combine to make this one beautifully feminine luxury soap. Here's the finished product on the curing rack:
